Container Crane Alignment Scanning

Container Crane Alignment Scanning
Client: Port of Auckland

The Port of Auckland operates five large shipping container cranes. Until now alignment monitoring of the main bogie rails has not been able to be carried out in an efficient manner.

NOVAMECH was asked to obtain positional data of the rails for the length of the crane boom.

Container Crane Alignment Scanning

By positioning our Leica HDS 3000 scanner at both ends of the boom we were able to see the rails (have line of sight on these). This enabled us to scan the inner edge of the rail.

Deliverables: From this data we produced drawings of each crane with tabulated positional data for The Port of Auckland to then use if any adjustments or maintenance was required.

NOVAMECH successfully carried this out on all five cranes over a four month period. The major challenge was the changeable weather that Auckland experiences.
